As part of Pollok's centenary celebrations, a squad of Pollok Legends was complied to take on an SPL Old Boys Select led by Clyde manager John Brown. The weather had improved enough from saturday for the game to go ahead, though conditions were very soft underfoot. Pollok fielded two squads of former players, a first half team and a second half team, with the players involved overall being: Brian Cassidy, Ally Marshall, Fraser Wishart, Geoff Curran, Robert Anderson, Chic Charnley, Davie Jamieson, Sammy Johnston, John Paisley, Eddie McKim, Alan Grainger, Jim Mullaney, Gordon Wilson, Ian Wilson, Mark McWilliams, Peter Wharton, Kevin O'Neil, John McGall, Andy McQuade, Sandy Stewart, John Morrison, Stevie Howe, Tony Connell (unused I believe) and Andy Dailly (apologies if I've missed anyone out!). The SPL Old Boys included: Lindsay Hamilton, Tom Boyd, Brian Martin, John Brown, Gerry Collins, Jim Murphy (MP, secretary of state for Scotland, and captain of the Parliamentary football team), Gordon Durie, Andy Walker, John McDonald, Dougie Bell, Gerry McCabe and Kenny Brannigan. Bill McMurdo, although stripped, coached them from the safety of the touchline! Sammy Johnston and Davie Jamieson helped them out for numbers in the second half. Sadly the weather had a devastating effect on the turnout, with barely 200 people coming along to show their appreciation for those who had given up their time to play. For those that did make the effort, they saw a highly entertaining game. So thanks to everyone who came along to support the match, either by playing in it or by cheering on the lads from the terraces. And for me, beyond a few great goals, the moment of the match was Andy Walker managing to fire a wayward shot straight into one of Lok's training lights where the ball remained wedged for ever more... the bill to Radio Clyde please Mr MacLeod! We have photographic evidence below! For the record, the game finished 4-4 and was eventually, after much discussion, decided on penalties. There was a wee bit of early panto in the shootout when Fraser Wishart's son Cameron, on as a very late sub, took a spot kick, only to see Lindsay Hamilton save it to a chorus of playful boos from the supporters. Ref Steven McFaulds ordered a re-take and waved a yellow card at Hamilton for his unsporting and villainous behaviour. Thankfully Wishart Jr (who is of primary age I must add) netted to help the Lok Legends on their way to victory. Lok
