Kirkintilloch Rob Roy left Newlandsfield Park with all three points after inflicting a heavy defeat on Pollok on Saturday. ‘Lok manager Jim Sinnet opted for a change of system, with Joe Carruth and Chris Cruickshank returning as part of a back four in place of Derek Wingate and Andy McClay. Robert Downs was also relegated to the bench, with Richie Newall taking his place.

Pollok could have opened the scoring after only 28 seconds when Calum Hardie burst clear on the right and squared the ball to Andy Essler in acres of space, but his weak shot was easily gathered by Kevin Bell. He was made to pay as his side fell behind in the third minute. Shaun Molloy’s throw-in found Jamie Docherty, who laid the ball off to GARRY CARBERRY to drill home a low shot from 25 yards out. Things went from bad to worse for the hosts as Rob Roy added a second nine minutes later. A ball over the top was flicked on towards MICHAEL HUGHES, and he showed great technique to fire a half-volley beyond the advancing Kris Robertson. Pollok moved back within a goal after quarter of an hour. Hardie and Carruth combined on the right, with the full-back crossing perfectly for BRYAN DINGWALL to head home from close range.

Davie Turnbull then hooked a shot over the crossbar, while Hughes had a strike saved after a surging run from Molloy. The game turned on a hectic fifteen second spell in the 36th minute. Carruth’s cross was headed towards goal by Turnbull, with James Lennox clearing the ball off the line. It landed at the feet of Newall, but Bell blocked his shot. Rob Roy cleared upfield to JAMIE DOCHERTY, who advanced towards the Pollok goal before slotting past Robertson to restore a two-goal lead for the visitors. Hardie then had an effort tipped over by Bell, while Kevin MacDonald was narrowly off target with a dipping volley. The half closed with Dingwall heading over from a long Robertson free-kick.

Pollok almost fell further behind two minutes into the second half when a terrific volley from Docherty was touched over the bar by Robertson. Turnbull forced a low save from Bell, while Dingwall was very close with a snapshot from 22 yards out. He was even closer with a header from a Hardie cross, finding the side-netting, but Pollok did pull a goal back after 58 minutes. A well weighted ball from Dingwall found Hardie at the bye-line, and his cut-back was swept home by DAVIE TURNBULL. ‘Lok almost levelled six minutes later when Stevie Miller found Dingwall in the area. He fed the ball to Newall, who set up Essler for a strike, but he blazed his shot over the crossbar from close range. Docherty almost scored on another breakaway, only for Robertson to push his shot round the post, but Rob Roy added a fourth in the 70th minute.

Amid some chaotic defending Pollok failed to clear their lines, with the ball breaking to GARRY CARBERRY for a composed finish that gave Robertson no chance. It could have got worse for Pollok moments later when Grant Anderson turned Miller and headed for goal, but Robertson managed to get his legs in the way to prevent a fifth. Billy Jones volleyed over after an Anderson corner before John Sweeney was brought on to make his home debut. He had a chance to pull a goal back when he gathered a flick from fellow substitute Downs, but could only lift his effort high over the target. Pollok finished the game with only ten men when Shaun Dillon limped off with an injury after all three substitutes were used, but in truth by that stage the spoils were already destined for Adamslie Park.

Pollok will now have to regroup before the visit of Neilston to Newlandsfield on Saturday, with kick off at 2pm.
