Pollok achieved a creditable draw when they took on Scottish Football League opposition in competitive action for the first time in their 99-year history as they shared four goals with Montrose at Links Park. Manager Rab Sneddon welcomed back David McGeown after he missed last weeks game at Renfrew in the only change from that side. Scottish Cup rules restricted Sneddon's options on the bench, with two under-21 players and a recognised goalkeeper having to be listed amongst the substitutes, but he still had the experience of Alan Waddell and Davie Turnbull in reserve.

It was the Junior outfit who should have opened the scoring after 12 minutes when the ball broke kindly to Paul Hyslop inside the penalty box, but he failed to keep his composure and shot wildly over. Poor marking in the visiting defence moments later left Jay Stein all alone in the Pollok penalty area, but John Baird squandered the chance with a poor delivery from the left. Stein then saw Kris Robertson make a good save as the 'keeper pushed his 30-yard free-kick around the post for a corner. Zander Ryan had a free-kick of his own save by Mark Peat after 27 minutes before Robert Downs dispossessed Stuart Cumming on the edge of the box, but the 'Lok striker sclaffed his shot wide.

Stein and Scott Gates were off target for Montrose, as was Keith Gibson when he shot over from an excellent position after an Andy Rodgers cut-back. Baird was presented with a golden opportunity to break the deadlock when a back-peddling Robertson fell over when dealing with a backpass, but the striker failed to hit the gaping target from the edge of the box. After 42 minutes Ryan hit the bye-line for Pollok, but opted to shoot rather than cut the ball back to his waiting team-mates and Peat made a comfortable save. The 'keeper was beaten just two minutes from the end of the half, however. McGeown laid the ball off to Brian McKeown, who drove forward before sliding the ball through to ROBERT DOWNS, who lashed home a historic strike.

Jim Weir's troops came out after the interval with all guns blazing, with Gibson and Rodgers both going close in the opening five minutes of the second half. The equaliser arrived after 53 minutes when a Stein free-kick found the head of ANDY RODGERS, who flicked the ball into the far corner of the net. Substitute Steven Dorris then shot wide after some hesitant 'Lok defending as the Gable Endies took control of the game.

Rodgers forced a tremendous reaction save from Robertson after 67 minutes when he connected with a Baird cross, but three minutes later the same players combined to put the Third Division side into the lead. Rodgers crossed from the right, and although Robertson was first to the ball he only succeeded in scooping it onto the head of JOHN BAIRD, who duly nodded home.

Bryan Dingwall had a weak header easily saved before Rab Sneddon rolled the dice with a gamble to save the game as he took off central defender Robbie Henderson and replaced him with the attacking prowess of Turnbull with ten minutes left to play. He received his payout within four minutes as a McGeown shot rebounded back to DAVIE TURNBULL 18-yards from goal, and he drilled the ball home to sent the visitors into raptures. Both teams pressed on for a winner, with Gibson having a shot blocked by a desperate Pollok block, then heading over from a Dorris cross. Dingwall had a chance for Pollok deep into injury time, but his header looped onto the roof of the net to ensure a replay.

Both teams will feel that they had opportunities to win the game, but both will now have to do it all over again next weekend at Newlandsfield Park.

Lok took advantage of the new fieldturf at Lesser Hampden in order to get in a bit more practice ahead of Saturday's trip to Links Park. The vast expanses of Lesser Hampden's pitch are unlike anything in Junior football and hopefully not too much like the Links Park surface!

Queens fielded a side largely made up of U19s (including Ray Montgomerie) and a select few members of the 1st team squad, while Lok's selection was dictated by availability issues to such a degree that Bryan Dingwall played the second half on the right wing. Raymond Logan's appearance in the No 8 jersey must have surprised a few Lok fans, the big man having returned to the club late last week after an 8 month hiatus.

Paul Cairney fired the Spiders ahead midway through the second half and young sub Ian Smith drilled home a second late on.

Pollok progressed to the second round of the Whyte and Mackay West of Scotland Cup with a 2-0 victory against Renfrew at Western Park.
Having lost both Derek Heaton and David McGeown to injury Rab Sneddon was forced into two changes. Robbie Henderson and the fit again Davie Turnbull returned, while new signing James Tyler occupied a spot on the bench. Renfrew's line-up included two players who played for Pollok earlier in the season, with both Joe McAlpine and Craig Ferguson starting the game.

The early stages of the match provided few chances for either side. Bryan Dingwall shot well wide for Pollok in the first minute and Robert Downs headed a Zander Ryan cross wide after ten minutes. Brian McKeown also struck a shot from distance wide before Kris Robertson was forced into the first save of the game when he collected a weak Chris Faulds effort after 26 minutes. Moments later Craig Marshall had to save at the other end when Downs volleyed a Dingwall cross towards goal. Pollok had a fortunate escape after 33 minutes when a McAlpine corner led to a deflected strike from Greg Millar that caused chaos in the 'Lok rearguard, and only some scrambled defending saw the danger cleared. Seconds later Renfrew were reduced to ten men when, to the astonishment of most in the ground, referee Bobby Madden dismissed Michael Dickie for his reaction when a decision did not go his way.

Mr. Madden further aggrieved the home fans when he awarded Pollok a penalty kick after a surging run by Gary Wilson was halted inside the box. Ryan stepped up to take the kick, only for Marshall to make a terrific save to his right. The 'keeper denied Pollok again with four minutes remaining in the half when he pushed a goalbound Downs effort onto the post. The half ended with Dingwall's cross picking out Ryan in space and with a sight of the 'Frew goal, but he blazed the ball high over the crossbar.

Renfrew could have taken the lead just three minutes after the restart when Graham Mort tried his luck, but his shot flew over the bar. Turnbull then had a venomous strike parried by Marshall, and Dingwall couldn't quite reach the rebound. Pollok were not to be denied for much longer, however, and took the lead after 51 minutes. Paul Hyslop whipped over a dangerous cross from the left that Downs headed back across goal. Cameron Rankin's best efforts at cutting the ball out were to no avail as BRYAN DINGWALL forced the ball home from close range, despite claims from Marshall that he had managed to stop it from crossing the goal-line.

Substitute Gordon Smith volleyed over for the hosts before the game was virtually wrapped up when Pollok scored their second. Downs was again the provider, this time breaking down the wing before sliding the ball across to DAVIE TURNBULL to side-foot home. Downs spurned an opportunity to get his name on the scoresheet after 55 minutes when he headed a Ryan cross over from an excellent position. Hyslop then picked out Dingwall with a searching ball, but his shot from a tight angle was blocked by Marshall. Rankin looped a header wide from a McAlpine free-kick before Tyler was handed his Pollok debut with 22 minutes left to play. He nearly played his part in a third goal when he burst down the left and squared a pass to Dingwall, who fired the ball towards goal, only to see it strike the junction of post and bar.

Pollok had already done more than enough to progress, however, and can now look forward to the second round draw for the competition. In the meantime they now face the daunting prospect of a trip to Links Park to take on Third Division outfit Montrose in the Senior Scottish Cup.

Pollok came away victorious in their first ever visit to the brand-new Petershill Park in a game that prepares Lok for the artificial turf of Links Park, Montrose, in two weeks time. Rab Sneddon made one change to the side that defeated Cumnock last weekend, with Brian McKeown replacing Stevie Miller in the centre of midfield, but there was no place in the 16 for new signing James Tyler, who had to be content with only taking part in the warm-up.

Both sides began brightly, and it was the home side who had the best early opportunity when former Partick Thistle star Alex Burns set up Mark McVittie but his attempted lob over Kris Robertson was denied by the Lok keeper. Zander Ryan had Lok's first chance when he connected with a Wilson cross but McVittie was able to block him.

Lok didn't have long to wait to open the scoring as in the 7th minute PAUL HYSLOP picked up possession in the heart of midfield and attempted a speculative drive from 25 yards that took a deflection off a Peasy defender, helping it beat the despairing dive of Neil Parry. Pollok then had to make a change when Derek Heaton picked up a hamstring injury and was replaced by Robbie Henderson, making his 3rd appearance of the season. Despite this set-back, Lok were on top of proceedings, and a Ryan cross from the right was flicked on by the head of Downs to the back post, but there was no one in a black and white jersey to pounce. Peasy cleared the ball for a corner, and from Ryan's inch-perfect delivery, Henderson headed narrowly past the post. Lok had another attempt at goal five minutes later when Downs delivered an accurate cross for Dingwall, but the Lok forward's well directed header lacked the pace to trouble Parry.

With 22 minutes elapsed, Robert Downs received a painful whack from ex-Yoker and Ayr stopper Gerry Joyce, a player much in the mould of Ryan Jordan, albeit a year older. Teenager Gary Wild then went for goal from a free-kick but he missed the target, and Petershill were slowly beginning to establish a degree of control over the tempo of the game. Former Aberdeen winger Allan Carella, who was with the Dons alongside ex-Lok midfielder Ross O'Donoghue, had a chance from close range but shot over. Burns then attempted to go for goal from another free-kick, and it took a deflection to put that effort out for a corner. Lok were not out of the game completely though, with Ryan and Dingwall linking up to good effect, only for the latter to fire wide. As the first half came to a close, Peasy had a claim for a penalty waved away by Gary Hilland when a Dallas shot appeared to strike an arm, while at the other end, Downs headed a Ryan cross out for a goal-kick.

The second half seemed to lack the intensity of the first, and Lok appeared to be on the back-foot for long spells. Peasy's main tactic was a long throw from McVittie, and from one such catapulted bombardment, Carella's header forced Robertson into making a save. Ryan then volleyed a powerful shot over the bar and from a Wilson throw in 55 minutes, Peasy keeper Parry denied Hyslop's downward header. Soon after, a 58th minute Wilson free-kick from the left was met by McGeown who was unfortunate to see his header flash wide. Peasy boss Stevie Easton then made a triple substitution, bringing on pacy Max Asante, as well as Keiran McAleenan and Jamie Coulter in a bid to get back on terms. It did not pay off though, as Lok finally got their second goal when Joyce sent Downs tumbling to the deck inside the box in the 64th minute and ZANDER RYAN stepped up to convert the penalty for his fourth goal of the campaign thus far.

Chances thereafter were few and far between. Lok introduced Cruickshank for the tiring Hyslop in the 75th minute, and Waddell for stand-out McGeown in the 82nd, but the only one real chance of note that came the Southsiders' way was a stinging 87th minute Dingwall volley that was pushed away by Parry. In stoppage time Peasy pulled a goal back when MAX ASANTE, afforded time and space, pounced on the ball inside the area before driving beyond Robertson. There was not enough time for the home side to pull another back and the final whistle was met by relieved cheers from the Lok faithful. Lok's next fixture is in the West of Scotland Cup at Renfrew next weekend, kick off 2pm.

Pollok chalked up six goals in a game for the second week in a row as they recorded a comprehensive victory against Cumnock at Newlandsfield Park.
With worries over a minor injury to Richie Newall, Rab Sneddon made just one change to his team, with Paul Hyslop taking over the left midfield berth.

The visitors applied some early pressure, with a long ball to Richie Barr catching out the Pollok defence after three minutes, and only a fine stop from Kris Robertson kept the scoresheet blank. Chris McGowan headed the resultant corner over the bar. Stuart MacDonald then forced another excellent block from the Pollok 'keeper before blasting the rebound over the target. It was the home side who opened the scoring after 16 minutes. Joe Carruth threaded a superb ball through to Bryan Dingwall, and rather than go for goal he cut the ball across to strike partner ROBERT DOWNS, who gleefully fired into an empty net. The lead was nearly two six minutes later as a long ball from Robertson was flicked on to Dingwall, who saw Graham Potter block his shot before Downs missed the target with the rebound.

Gary Wilson then found Dingwall from a throw-in with his back to goal, and only the merest of touches from Potter prevented his overhead kick from finding the net. At the other end Robertson had to be at full stretch to tip a dipping Stevie Farrell effort around the post before 'Lok added a second after half an hour. Carruth charged out of defence with the ball, then allowed David McGeown to take possession. He passed to Hyslop on the left, who composed himself before picking out DAVID McGEOWN, who had continued forward, and the midfielder volleyed home beyond Potter. Five minutes later Cumnock seized a lifeline when Jamie Moan and Simon Black combined to set-up RICHIE BARR, who spun and shot into the bottom right of the net from the edge of the penalty area. It took 'Lok just three minutes to score again. This time McGeown was the provider as he fed ZANDER RYAN, who smashed the ball high into the rigging.

The game was all but sealed just three minutes into the second half when 'Nock failed to clear a Pollok free-kick, with McGeown's overhead kick falling to BRYAN DINGWALL, who showed his natural goalscoring instincts by swivelling and firing past Potter. The 'keeper then made two saves in quick succession, firstly blocking a Downs volley from a Hyslop cross, then turning a Ryan drive around the post for a corner. Robertson made a terrific save to deny Gareth Campbell from close range before Stevie Miller had to leave the action with a head wound. Pollok took until the 84th minute to score their fifth, and the goal came from the penalty spot. Downs and Dingwall combined well to create a sight of goal, but Dingwall was tripped before he could pull the trigger. ZANDER RYAN stepped up to slot the spot kick home with Potter diving the wrong way. 'Lok completed the scoring two minutes from time when substitute Alan Waddell latched onto a long ball before sliding it across to BRYAN DINGWALL, who made no mistake in finding the target from just inside the area.

The result and the performance will help to get Pollok's stuttering league campaign back on track, and will help their confidence levels before they take on Petershill on the artificial turf of Springburn next week. The Scottish Cup draw also sees 'Lok head for an artificial park as they travel to face Montrose.
