Pollok 1 (0) It wasn't much of a game between Lok and the Burgh, the outcome eventually being decided on penalties. Burgh made four changes to the side that drew 2-2 with Cumnock last week - Donohoe, Carson, McDonald and John Sherry all dropping out of the starting XI, and Pollok did likewise, though injuries played a part in Heaton, Tinney, McClay and Logan all missing out. The changes meant that Derek Paterson made his first appearance in five months and his first start in over six.

Lok started off with a back four but with Mark McWilliams looking
uncomfortable at left-back and the shortage of left footers in the squad telling, the familiar back three came out midway through the first half.

Burgh had the first real chance in 12 minutes when Joe Murray found himself in a scoring opportunity but between them, Wilson and Aitchison worked to close down the Kiwi star. Ex-Lok stopper Stevie Gayne relished the chance to play the sitting midfield role and he was dangerous on more than one occasion in the first half, forcing Wilson into a point blank save in the 15th minute.

Pollok were looking a bit out of sorts after so many changes to a
long-established first XI that perhaps was not surprising, but an unusually sloppy pass from the otherwise typically mercurial Jas Juttla in the 25th minute was intercepted by Simon Black and he then fired in a quick pass to Friels in the area but Colin Traynor reacted well to deny him.

Burgh had another opportunity in 34 minutes when McKelvie weaved his way down the right but eventually ran out of pitch and his cutback was put out for a corner by Paterson. Stevie Gayne then warmed Wilson's gloves with a low long-ranger two minutes on.

The Second half followed the trend of half-chances appearing intermitently. Lok began a bit brighter with Black going close and then both McLauchlan and McKeever passing up an opportunity in front of goal in the 50th minute. McLauchlan then hit a sweet effort wide in the 62nd minute after a free-kick and with play swinging to the other end, Murray played an excellent ball through to Stevie Miller who forced Wilson into action yet again.

The game looked to be moving in Burgh's favour in 67 minutes when Robertson burst through the middle, to claims of offside more in hope than expectation, and cut a wide angle across Wilson's area heading for the corner flag. Wilson had already decided to try and slow his progress and ref Gary Kirkwood had little choice but to award the spot kick. JOHN SHERRY converted.

Pollok levelled in the 78th minute when Aitchison won the ball in the Lok half and fired an excellent pass through to MARTIN MCLAUCHLAN who kept his nerve and beat Traynor from around 16 yards out. Kevin Proctor then made Traynor work again while Willie Stewart saw a shot deflect wide after Black won the ball in the Burgh area.

Former Talbot stopper Chris Wozencroft gets close to McLauchlan And on to penalties: Wilson saving from John Sherry, with Simon Black and Burgh's Graham Dale then netting consecutive efforts. Traynor then saved from Proctor while Mark Sherry was then denied by Wilson.

A well-placed effort from Gavin Friels gave Lok a 2-1 advantage and Wilson's 3rd save from four kicks by denying Derek Carson allowed Lok penalty king John Tinney the chance to win the tie. With a phenominal record over the years from the spot, Tinney was the man to wrap it up.

Pollok 2 (0) Pollok were knocked out of the OVD Scottish Junior Cup at the Quarter Final stage by Renfrew and really can have little complaint about the result. Renfrew began brightly, with two free-kicks inside the first five minutes and from the second of those, JOHN MCLAY met the ball 8 yards out to power an unstoppable header past Wilson.

Pollok tried to get back on terms and from a Wilson punt, Stewart shot wide. Lok then had a free-kick in the 22nd minute that no one could connect with, and there was a let-off at the other end in 36 minutes when McClay got a good block on an Alan Colsh shot. At the other end a minute later, McClay hit a 25 yarder that Scrimgour dealt with comfortably. Renfrew were content to play on the break and wait for Lok to give the ball away, a frequent occurrence throughout.

The second half was similar, with Lok's nervy play and wastefulness in the last third continuing. In the 51st minute 'Frew broke away with McLafferty and although he set up Smith, the big forward shot over. Two minutes later a Tinney cross was headed goalward by Logan but Scrimgour was equal to it.

Gordon Smith should have extended the 'Frew lead in the 55th minute when another McLafferty cross found him in acres of space to crack a low shot goalwards, but fortunately for Lok, Stewart got enough of a block in to aid Wilson in stopping the ball on the line.

The goal wasn't long in coming though as Renfrew capitalised on sloppy Pollok play in 57 minutes with ALAN PRENTICE this time in too much space, having the time to pick his spot. McKeever and Proctor then came on for McWilliams and Tinney as Lok looked for inspiration. Stevie Aitchison then had to throw in a desperate last gasp challenge in 62 minutes as Lok disintegrated at the back.

Five minutes on and another Lok chance missed when McLauchlan mis-hit a shot high across the 6 yard box that Kevin Proctor not unsurprisingly couldn't react to in time and his subsequent header was also misdirected. Pollok stepped up the pressure with Scrimgour saving from a free-kick and Derek Heaton firing a shot wide. Renfrew looked dangerous on the break as well though and Prentice had an 81st minute shot deflected wide.

The visitors went three up in the 83rd minute though when McLafferty crossed for the unmarked GORDON SMITH to score with a low effort into the bottom left hand corner. Game over...

Or was it? Not quite. Kevin Proctor had an 85th minute shot deflected over for a corner, and from the corner, supersub KEVIN PROCTOR struck again from close range. Lok reduced the deficit further in the 88th minute when DEREK HEATON headed in a free-kick.

Lok had a chance in the last minute with a goalmouth scramble after a corner but an equaliser, how ever welcome for Lok, would have been unjust on Renfrew. All at the Lok will wish Renfrew FC well in the semi-final.

Pollok 3 (1) Pollok saved their poorest performance of the season for the visit of Kilwinning Rangers who had two debutants Grant Goodridge and Stephen Cosgrove in the side, alongside recently signed veteran Dylan Kerr at sweeper. The only change to the Lok line-up was Martin Nelson replacing Simon Black, cup-tied next week, in central midfield.

Lok actually opened the scoring in the 40th second when John Tinney set
McLauchlan away down the left and WILLIE STEWART was unmarked in the middle to meet his cross and beat Wardrope. Wardrope then had to be sharp to deny Stewart a second goal ten minutes later when he turned a powerful low shot out for a corner. Ex-Hamilton striker Gareth Armstrong could have equalised when he pounced on a Heaton slip but shot just wide of Wilson's left post.

Martin McLauchlan shot wide for Lok in the 22nd minute after the Buffs failed to clear their lines, and good work from Stewart set up Logan in the 26th minute but he fired high and wide. Lok had another chance in the 30th minute when Logan met a Tinney corner but only succeeded in heading into the back of Friels who in turn tried to beat Wardrope from close range but the keeper denied him again.

Right on half-time Ian Cashmore more missed an absolute sitter from very close range, but everyone in the ground probably felt that the Buffs were still capable of getting level. And that's what happened, when in the 55th minute a throw-in from left back area was switched on the diagonal to the waiting IAN CASHMORE who rifled a low shot first time past Ian Wilson.

Buffs went ahead in the 65th minute when from a free-kick deep in their own half, an unchallenged CHARLIE ADAMS got onto the ball and taking the freedom of Newlandsfield, beat Wilson from inside the area.

James Donnelly could have made it three in the 71st minute when he went in unchallenged on Wilson, rounded him and rolled the ball goalwards, but the ball was hacked out for a corner by the chasing-back Jordan.

Rab Sneddon then made a double substitution, introducing Black and Proctor to give some zest to the forwards, and it was a canny move. Despite this change, the visitors extended their lead in the 80th minute when the referee made what looked a poor call to penalise Jordan for a tackle in which he cleanly and clearly won the ball. Wilson failed to hold Biggart's 25-yard free-kick and struggled to quickly get up again to face IAN CASHMORE who fed off the scraps and blasted the third into the net. Surely the winner?
Not quite. SIMON BLACK reduced the deficit to a goal when he netted from close range in the 87th minute and there was still time to find an equaliser as in the 89th minute, SIMON BLACK, again from close in, fired in at Wardrope's left-hand post. Both typical strikers goals, as they say. Buffs will be gutted as they looked home and dry but truth be told, the game could and should have been over for them at half-time. That said, considering it was very much a game of two halves, a point apiece seems fair.
