Pollok 4 (2) A beautiful day in Glasgow and an entertaining game played out in front of a healthy crowd. Pollok made one change from the side who beat Glenafton Athletic last weekend, with Andy McClay taking Derek Paterson's place in the starting XI.

Pollok scorers: Raymond Logan (8, 57) Martin McLauchlan (42) Gavin Friels (74)

Talbot enjoyed the lions share of the early play, but fell behind in the 8th minute when McLauchlan at the second attempt got a cross into the box and RAYMOND LOGAN rose to power a header beyond McIntosh.

David Gillies was then denied by Wilson in the 19th minute when he got onto a low driven cross from Wallace after Cruickshank had given the ball away, the Lok keeper getting a foot to the ball to turn it out for a corner. Mark McKeever came close to adding to his solitary Lok goal with a powerful shot that McIntosh had to react to a minute later, and from a counter-attack in the 27th minute, McLauchlan broke away but McIntosh was equal to his effort.

Talbot left back Liam McVey pulled up with an injury as the half wore on, but having already replaced Jim Leitch with McAulay, Tommy Sloan was perhaps reticent about putting on another sub before half time and kept him on. Whether or not that decision had anything to do with Lok's second, only McVey will know, but he lost control of the ball 35 yards from goal and MARTIN MCLAUCHLAN was on him immediately, nicking the ball then drew McIntosh and drove a well-placed shot into the net.

Talbot pulled a goal back in the 56th minute, and it was LIAM MCVEY taking advantage of Lok sloppiness before placing the ball past Ian Wilson. The reduced deficit lasted seconds as from a corner at the other end, Derek Heaton's flicked head-on found RAYMOND LOGAN to loop a second header and Lok's third goal of the day over the line.

The players seemed to get a little hot under the collar in the heat of the battle and referee Hilland had to step in to calm more than one or two scuffles. One on the hour after a strong Heaton challenge resulted in a handful of bookings, while Gilmour's tackle on McClay a few minutes later saw him booked, though the Lok player appeared to react.

Pity they don't all count: Mark mcKeever watches his stunning effort fly in, only to be chopped off
Gavin Friels (10) turns away after rolling the ball goalwards Pollok made it 4-1 in the 74th minute, and McKeever played a part in it, releasing GAVIN FRIELS on goal, and he was allowed the time and space to pick his spot beyond his former team mate.

Pollok had a strong claim for a penalty waved away in the 77th minute when Friels turned Anderson inside out and after the second time of turning him, six yards out in front of goal he appeared to be tripped in the act of shooting. And Talbot had another let-off in the 78th minute when Mark McKeever rifled a stunning effort from John Tinney's free-kick lay-off into the back of the net from around 20 yards distance, but the referee chalked it off on the assistant referee's advice.

Lok's last chance came in the 86th minute when subs Black and Stewart linked up well, but McIntosh was equal to Stewart's effort from outside the box. A fine win for Lok then, but I'm sure either side could have hoped for one or two decisions to have gone in their favour.

Pollok 1 (0) Pollok moved nine points clear of the chasing pack with a hard earned 1-0 victory over Glenafton at Newlandsfield Park. Rab Sneddon stuck with the same eleven who had battled their way to victory at Maryhill the previous week, with Peter Jordan and Lorn Gibson making way on the bench for Willie Stewart and Simon Black.

It was to be the visitors who had the first real effort at goal from an 11th minute Richie Newall free kick, but his effort was straight at Ian Wilson. Two minutes later 'Lok nearly took the lead, also from a free kick. Stevie Aitchison sent the ball upfield, where it was met by the head of Derek Heaton, but his looping header struck the top of the bar with Kevin Montgomery beaten.

In the 21st minute Mark McKeever created some space on the right wing for Pollok, but his low driven cross was put wide by Gavin Friels. Friels did find the net a minute later, but his effort was ruled out for offside. Almost immediately Glens threatened at the other end, with Wilson having to look sharp to tip over from Stevie Agnew, before Craig Bingham headed the resultant corner over.

Glenafton were enjoying their best spell of the match at this point, with a Stevie Mallan back-header nearly catching out Wilson and Joe Carruth also coming close with a header. Derek Heaton then had to make a last ditch challenge in the 36th minute to prevent Agnew from pulling the trigger when bearing down on goal.

Derek Paterson and Marc Cleeland both found their way into referee Law's book, before Brian Miller was presented with Glens best chance of the game after 39 minutes. Some sloppy Pollok defending gave the midfielder a sight at goal, but he pulled his effort narrowly wide of the post.

Within two minutes the visitors were made to pay for their missed chances. A corner was cleared to the edge of the box, and Paterson headed the ball back towards goal. Both Chris Cruickshank and Martin McLauchlan tried to help the ball into the net, but despite the striker claiming the final touch, the goal was officially awarded to DEREK PATERSON. At the time, the home fans were just relieved that one of them had succeeded in giving their team a one goal half time advantage, although not before Mallan had a potential equaliser disallowed for offside.

As the second half began it was again the visitors who had the first effort on goal, this time a powerful Bingham effort being tipped over by Wilson. At the other end Pollok had an excellent chance to extend their lead. Some clever work from Cruickshank ended with a shot from the left-back, which Montgomery could only push into the path of McLauchlan, but the striker missed the gaping target. He nearly atoned for his miss in the 63rd minute when fashioning space for himself on the right, but strike partner Friels couldn't quite connect with his cross.

Three home players were then booked in quick succession, the sinners being Heaton, Raymond Logan and McLauchlan. Glens continued to press for an equaliser, with Agnew having a decent effort blocked by Mark McKeever and Carruth firing wide. Gary Robertson replaced Miller before Bingham and Keith Hogg joined the growing list of players seeing yellow. Stewart replaced McLauchlan for Pollok as Rab Sneddon looked for fresh legs to see out the closing stages. Glenafton then wasted a free kick in an excellent position when Bingham sliced horribly wide, before a final chance went begging deep into injury time when Mallan headed wide.

Derek Heaton pushes forward Pollok therefore clung on for a crucial three points in their quest for the league title, while Glenafton will have to wait for next season to try and claim an elusive first Superleague win over 'Lok.

Maryhill 0 (0) It was a closely-contested match at Lochburn Park between Maryhill and Pollok in pretty miserable conditions. Pollok managed to play a back four with the availability of Chris Sweeney and the team looked a lot more stable
as a result. And although Derek Heaton and Raymond Logan made a return, there was no Andy McClay, Willie Stewart or Simon Black from last week's understrength side.

Maryhill threatened early on through Brian Watret with a shot over the top of the bar and a Martin Baker free-kick was on target five minutes later, but Ian Wilson made a comfortable save. Pollok's first chance came in the 16th minute when they broke forward with Mark McKeever feeding Friels on the right but his shot was cut out.

McLauchlan then fired a ball into the box that Black could only paw away towards Raymond Logan but his acrobatic overhead kick was off-target. A shot from Murray in the 27th minute was blocked as Maryhill looked for the opener while tempers boiled over after a clash between Logan and Dingwall that left both needing treatment.

Gavin Friels then had a 32nd minute shot put out for a corner as play swung to the other end and in keeping with the low standard of football on show on a heavy pitch, an almighty clearance from Scott Black deceived Wilson and ended up narrowly going out for a goal kick. Colin Giles then went close from a Maryhill corner and with Wilson then starting a counter-attack, an another hefty punt released Friels but under pressure he shot wide bearing down on Black.

The second half was still in its infancy when Lok next threatened, and again Friels was involved with a shot from distance that maybe lacked the pace to beat Black. Bryan Dingwall was involved in an altercation with Aitchison in the 48th minute that left the Lok player needing treatment.

Chris Cruickshank then went close from a corner but pressure from a 'Hill defender seemed to limit his options and he headed over the bar. Derek Heaton was one player having his best game for Lok in a good few games, and he was unlucky to see his well directed header from a Tinney corner tipped over by Black.

And with Tinney another excelling, he delivered a fine free-kick in the 56th minute onto the head of Derek Paterson who was unfortunate to see his goalbound effort deflected away. Half-chances were beginning to come thick and fast at either end, though neither keeper had to make an outstanding
save all afternoon.

Pollok took the lead in the 73rd minute, but it was almost something out of nothing when a Wilson punt was flicked on by Martin McLauchlan into the path of GAVIN FRIELS a good way out. He took a touch to turn himself towards goal and then rifled a venemous drive beyond Black with such power that it hit the back boards and flew out into play again, a fantastic finish for his 19th goal of the season.

Ian Wilson roars that Lok are back on track! Maryhill tried to force the equaliser and a Gallagher cross found Dingwall whose header was saved. Then deep into stoppage time Maryhill were awarded a free-kick that Cocozza delivered into the box and after one half-clearance, Dingwall drilled a low shot just wide of the target. No equaliser was forthcoming though and the 'Hill have got it all to do if they are to take Kilwinning Rangers' championship crown now. As for Lok, a fine battling performance that will help everyone forget a difficult, injury-hit few weeks.

Johnstone Burgh 2 (0) Pollok crashed to defeat against the rapidly improving Johnstone Burgh at Keanie Park though there can be few complaints as Burgh deserved the victory. Lok, without regulars Peter Jordan, Mark McWilliams, Raymond Logan and Derek Heaton not to mention long-term crocks McNeill, Haggarty and McMenamin, gave a debut to Chris Cruickshank in defence while Burgh - making five changes from the team of two weeks ago - were shorn of Jas Juttla but could recall Derek Carson, Alan Donohoe, Gary Robertson, John Sherry and Ryan McDonald to the starting XI.

Burgh had all the early pressure and a header from Derek Carson forced Ian Wilson into early action. Pollok's first chance came in the 5th minute when McLauchlan got onto a Stewart corner but his header deflected wide.

Martin Nelson then displayed a fine piece of skill in the 8th minute to get him clear of his marker to release Friels clear on goal, but Alan Donohoe came out to make a block. The first half was largely awful, and chances were few and far between, with a Simon Black shot wide after being set up by McLauchlan being Lok's only other chance in the opening 45 minutes. Andy McClay had to clear a Burgh effort off the line as the Lok defence struggled to clear a corner.

Burgh took the lead early in the second half when in 46 minutes a long ball found JOHN SHERRY wide left and he had a lot of time and room to draw Ian Wilson way off his line and place a shot into the maw that had opened up beyond the Lok keeper. Lok could have equalised almost instantly when McLauchlan fired a cross into the Burgh area but Nelson headed wide.

Derek Paterson picked up a hamstring injury just prior to Pollok's best chance of the game, and signalled he needed to come off. Lok's best chance came soon after in the 58th minute when a long ball from Aitchison finally exposed the otherwise excellent Burgh defence, marshalled expertly by Gary Robertson at sweeper, and it was Willie Stewart who sprung the offside trap only to be denied by Donohoe at the edge of the area.

Lok were caught napping straight away as a long clearance upfield eluded everyone, and with Paterson struggling to run off the injury he'd picked up, Danny McKelvie was yards ahead of the out-of-sorts Lok backline. Ian Wilson elected to try and slow him down by coming a good 15 yeards outside his box
but DANNY MCKELVIE rounded him and from a tight angle and still a fair distance out, placed a firm shot into the net.

Lok tried to get themselves back into the game by introducing three subs but none had much impact on proceedings. Pollok were being stretched by the big pitch, and Mark Sherry shot wide after one break had Lok all over the place.

Gavin Friels takes on Graham Dale The last minutes were quite eventful. Danny McKelvie missed a chance to make it
3-0, then soon after Wilson brought down John McShane for a penalty which he then made amends for by saving Mark Sherry's spot kick. And somewhere around that time McKelvie, who along with McLauchlan had been booked for diving in the first half, picked up a second booking for an altercation with Andy McClay.
