Petershill 1 (1) In front of a crowd of around 1300 Pollok clinched their first Evening Times Cup since the late 80s with a 3-1 win over historic rivals Petershill. The main change to the starting line-up was Drew McWilliams replacing Kevin Proctor, though Martin Nelson found himself on the bench after being unavailable in recent games.

Pollok scorers: David Hamilton 8, 73, Paul McMenamin 56

Pollok began the game brightly and immediately put the Petershill defence under pressure. With only three minutes gone, Jimmy McPhee hit a shot wide, but Petershill found their own legs upfront and Ian Wilson had to tip away a Jarvis effort then had to deal with a McShane header.

And it was Peasy who made the breakthough in the 7th minute, though there was a bit of fortune to the goal when CHRIS SWEENEY managed to deflect with his head what looked to otherwise be a harmless ball from deep though it looped over Wilson and into the net.

Pollok tried to get back on terms immediately and Logan headed wide from a Crozier free-kick. From the bizarrely awarded corner, Crozier picked up possession again and laid off a pass to DAVID HAMILTON who took a touch then delivered a clinical and powerful shot from the edge of the box past Parry. Two goals inside nine minutes certainly was a breathtaking way to start this game.

In the 12th minute Lok looked to go ahead when after a clever piece of play by Crozier inside the Peasy 6 yard box he found Hamilton, but under pressure he flicked his snapshot over the bar. Logan was then put through on goal but shot overr, and perhaps more wasteful was Drew McWilliams springing a shaky offside trap to get onto a McLauchlan pass just inside the Petershill half, but the 25 yard run to the goal gave him too much time to think and Parry came out to meet him. Hamilton then headed a Crozier cross over the bar to pick just one other of the chances passed up by Pollok in the first forty-five.

The second half continued along a similar pattern, with McLauchlan finding himself one on one with young Parry in the 55th minute only to be blocked. Lok took the lead in the 56th minute though when a corner found its way to PAUL MCMENAMIN at the left angle of the area but him low returned ball flew along the deck and into Parry's bottom left hand corner.
Pollok were working hard for each other in a strong sun, and technical endeavour was on show in the third goal when McWilliams made a short pass to Logan and he flicked onto Hamilton. DAVID HAMILTON then beared down on goal and instead of relying on power, he deftly steered the ball away from the Peasy keeper to wrap up the scoring for the afternoon. Pollok were still looking for further goals though and in the 75th minute Logan headed a McPhee cross over.
Sensing an easly kill, composure began to fall away though, and both Logan and Crozier elected to shoot on sight when perhaps they could have played in team mates. McWilliams missed another easy chance with four minutes left when Parry spilled a Logan shot, though at the other end Wilson had to react in stoppage time to prevent Peasy narrowing the winning margin. Petershill struggled without Stevie Dallas upfront but otherwise gave a good account of themselves.

Pollok 1 (0) In front of a bumper Monday night crowd of 744, Pollok retained their unofficial crown of Junior Football Penalty Kings with their sixth shootout triumph of the season (Sunnybank, Shotts, Larkhall, Kilsyth and Royal Albert the others).
Irvine Meadow XI 1 (0)
(Pollok won 4-2 on pens)
Pollok scorer: Martin McLauchlan 50

Irvine Meadow XI scorer: David Brolly 47

Referee Alan Muir took charge of his last ever Junior game, and it was at times a bit towsy. The first effort on goal came from Meadow in the 8th minute when Noble shot from distance. Eight minutes later, Gavin Brown set up David Brolly but his flicked shot hit Wilson's post. Meadow dominated the first half, and Pollok's only attempt on goal was a Crozier free-kick that was
only marginally over the bar.

It must be said that once again David Hamilton was having an excellent game in midfield. 'Hamster' was at the heart of almost everything that Pollok created but all too often the tired bodies of McLauchlan and McPhee could not break beyond the well-drilled Meadow XI backline.

Pollok emerged for the second half with a bit more purpose and straight away Proctor forced a corner after Crozier's cross. However, play swung up the other end and in the 47th minute when McMenamin was dispossessed at the angle of the area, DAVID BROLLY was on hand to turn in the loose ball.

Pollok equalised in the 50th minute though when from another crossed ball, Hamilton headed onto MARTIN MCLAUCHLAN who couldn't miss from close range for his 17th goal of the season. Mark Campbell found himself being red carded for following through on Crozier in the 70th minute and for the remainder of the game Lok tried every route and method possible to beat Stevie Connick in the Meadow goal. The former Cumnock keeper won't have many better games for Meadow I'm sure, and more than made up for his previous visit where he shipped five goals.

Firstly Drew McWilliams shot over, then Crozier saw another free-kick punched away, and then in 83 minutes Crozier drove the ball from wide on the right into the box and after a riccochet and a fresh-air swing from Logan, Crozier then powered the ball wide of the post. David Craig then had a shot tipped over and in stoppage time Connick pulled off another save to deny Kevin Proctor.
Penalties are a lottery, and both Raymond Logan and Gavin Brown missed their kicks before Hamilton, Baxter, Crozier and McInally all scored. Drew McWilliams put ok's fourth away but Wilson saved to deny McCormick. McLauchlan did well to keep his nerve and set up Lok's first meeting with old foes Petershill for over two years. The Evening Times Cup is not something that Pollok have won recently, the latest triumph being in 1988.

Pollok 2 (1) Pollok's interim management team continued their winning ways with a comfortable victory over the newly crowned league champions Kilwinning at Newlandsfield Park.

Lok welcomed back Martin McLauchlan and Jimmy McPhee, both returning from holiday, and also brought in Paul McMenamin to the team that defeated Clydebank. Making way were Drew McWilliams, Martin Baker and Martin Nelson. The visitors were also forced into changes from their weekend line-up, including the return of leg break victim Kevin Biggart to the starting eleven.

The first real opportunity came in the 7th minute, when McLauchlan headed a McMenamin throw in into the path of David Hamilton, but Joe Houston easily stopped his effort. The game didn't real spark into life until the 24th minute, when Biggart was booked for a challenge on Hamilton. From the resultant free kick Brendan Crozier found Chris Sweeney, whose header was turned home by Kevin Proctor, but the assistant referee had his flag raised for offside.

The visitors were rarely threatening, although Burns should have done better with a 31st minute header that flew over the bar. The deadlock was broken in the 39th minute, however, when excellent work from McLauchlan on the left hand side fashioned room for a cross, which was glanced into the net by KEVIN PROCTOR. This gave the home side the advantage at the interval.

The second half arrived and with it came the first flashpoint of the game, when John Spence and Raymond Logan squared up in front of the home dugout, with both players receiving a talking to from the referee. The first chance of the half fell to McLauchlan in the 53rd minute. Having beaten the Kilwinning offside trap he found himself in excellent position, but his deflected effort was superbly saved by Houston. Six minutes later, however, came the second goal for the home side.

Brendan Crozier delivered an excellent corner into the Kilwinning box, and RAYMOND LOGAN arrived to bullet a header past the 'keeper. Kilwinning then brought on Alan McTurk to replace Mark Ferris, before Hamilton went close from a header after another dangerous Crozier corner. Three yellow cards then arrived in quick succession, with Paul Mullin booked for a foul on Hamilton, Stevie Aitchison booked for a foul on Charlie Adams, and Logan booked for persistent fouling.

Andrew Hornell replaced Adams as the visitors sought a route back into the game, while David Craig replaced Jimmy McPhee for the home side. With eleven minutes to go Ian Cashmore fired well over, and a McTurk free kick also failed to trouble Ian Wilson in the Pollok goal. McMenamin then made way for Kevin O'Neil, before McTurk slid the final effort of the game past the post in injury time.
While Kilwinning could look back on a successful season that saw the Super Premier League flag head to Abbey Park, Pollok could look forward to continued progress in the Evening Times Cup, with a home tie against Irvine Meadow their prize for a deserved victory.
