This gave
the Pollok side a lot of confidence and they ran the home side ragged
in the first half playing lots of nice football. Cumnock were guilty of
some shocking challenges early on and one of their players was very lucky
to stay on the park after a disgusting two footed stamp on Nelson. Pollok
missed some great chances to put the game out of sight with Drew McWilliams
miss after trying to dribble round the keeper being the worst. 'Nock went
down to 10 men when a high late tackle on Jimmy McPhee gave the ref no
option but to show a red card to Sean Clark.
From the
free kick Hamilton somehow shot over the bar from 3 yards out. Both McWilliams
and Logan came close
before Pollok got a second in the 31st minute. A clever ball over the
top found McWiiliams and he was brought down in the box. The ref played
a sensible advantage allowing PAUL MCNEILL to spin and shoot home
from 10 yards out.
Just before half time it was 3-0. Paul McNeill was far too fast for lumbering
Nock centre half Chris McGowan and he was pulled down after being held
outside the box for a penalty. The linesman flagged for the first foul
but as we have seen all season the referee ignored his assistants help
and awarded the penalty. PAUL MCNEILL dusted himself down and ignored
some unsporting behaviour by the home sides players to send the keeper
the wrong way for his hat trick.
Half-time: Cumnock 0 Pollok 3
The
second half was pretty much an anticlimax with Pollok being content to
pass the ball around. Still the good chances kept coming with Hamilton
being unlucky to see his good shot go just wide of the post. Drew McWilliams
forced two good saves from home keeper Connelly and Paul McNeill saw his
thunderous shot go just over the bar. Joe Bryers was unlucky not to get
a penalty when he seemed to be clearly pulled to the ground by the Cumnock
left back.
One of the biggest cheers of the day came when player of the season Ian
Wilson was substituted allowing fans favourite Danny Hanley to make a
welcome return to the team. Cumnock managed to get a consolation right
on the final whistle when a ball was knocked back for the back post allowing
CRAIG PORTER to slide the ball home at the back post. The whistle
was blown to great cheers and celebrations on and off the park.
It was a good team performance from Pollok who kept their discipline and
got the job done. Everyone played their part today with Paul McNeill running
riot and there were good performance form Stevie Aitchison and Mark McWilliams.
