Hamilton impressive
Pollok thrashed Neilston 4-0 at Newlandsfield in front of around 700 fans, and the performance from the side was excellent.
Paul McNeill's pace and skill was causing havoc in the visitors defence and only two good saves from Hewitt and a brave block by veteran stopper Gordon Urquhart kept the scoreline blank in the first five minutes.

However McNeill was to create the opening goal in the 16th minute. After another skilful run McNeill was brought down in the box by Fallen which looked a pretty soft award to me. DREW MCWILLIAMS made an expert job from the spot sending the keeper the wrong way.

More good play from the home side followed with header from McPhee and a clever shot from Hamilton going just wide. The second goal, a contender for goal of the season, came in the 26th minute following a corner. The ball landed at the feet of DREW MCWILLIAMS and he fired in a spectacular half-volley from 22 yards high into the top corner of the net.

Neilston continued to try and play football but for all the nice passes in the middle of the park only a shot from Aitken actually forced a save out of Ian Wilson. Pollok scored another contender for goal of the season right on half-time. Fabiani played a brave ball out to Nelson and was flattened by Sammy Johnston for his troubles. The ball was played to McWilliams and his clever chip over the top was classily volleyed in by DAVID HAMILTON from 8 yards out.

Half time: Pollok 3 Neilston 0

Some top class play straight from the kick off almost saw Pollok increase their lead with Hewitt bringing off a quality save from a Logan shot. Pollok stepped down a gear after this bright start allowing Neilston back into the game. However yet again Ian Wilson apart from a couple of dangerous crosses did not have a save to make for the entire
half. Again McNeill was causing lots of problems for the Neilston defence and only trying to beat an extra man stopped home from finishing off a brilliant run.

Hamiton, Logan and McNeill celebrate (Evening Times)
Just after the hour mark Neilston were reduced to ten men. Waddell lost the ball on the edge of the Pollok box and stupidly kicked out at Nelson as he ran past him. A silly foul from a player who had been playing well despite the scoreline. Pollok thanks to some terrific play from Martin Nelson for once used the extra man well and played some lovely football. Pacitti with a header and Logan and Proctor came close to adding to the score.

Neilston's best chance came when slack marking allowed Fallen a free header that he put just wide of the post. It was to get worse for the Neilston man when he was ordered off in the 84th minute for a tackle from behind. Pollok got a fourth goal in the 88th minute. Great chasing play from McNeill ended with him winning the ball and sending in
a fine cross which KEVIN PROCTOR hammered into the net via the bar from close range.

This was one of Pollok's best performances of the year against one of the best teams we have played this season. There were no failures in the side but Fabiani, Aitchison, Logan, McNeill and McWilliams were very good. The man of the match for me was Martin Nelson who I have enjoyed watching for years and it was a pleasure to watch this fine player giving a brilliant performance in a Pollok shirt. He never wasted a ball and ran the show in midfield. Neilston played plenty of good football but didn't really look like scoring.

Double for Jimmy
This vital West Premier match was played out in bad weather at Abbey Park though to a healthy crowd.
JIMMY MCPHEE opened early for Lok when he ran down the left, cut inside and fired a low shot across Derek Barnes that went in by the former Dumbarton keeper's left post.
CHRIS STRAIN levelled for the Buffs twenty minutes later and the home side extended their lead in the second half when Drew McWilliams was deemed guilty by John McKendrick of pushing in the wall inside the box before a free-kick. STEVIE WATSON converted the resultant penalty. CHARLIE ADAMS extended the Buffs' lead with a nice goal on the hour, but Lok fought back with strikes from PAUL MCNEILL and JIMMY MCPHEE.

Late leveller from McWilliams
Benburb featured no fewer than 6 new players in a
much-changed line up since the last time the teams met. Pollok also rang the changes after the poor showing last week with loan signing Martin Nelson given a home debut.
However Pollok were yet again very poor for the majority of this match against a very young and enthusiastic Bens side. Pollok had a Heaton header that hit the top of the bar but apart from this few
real chances were created.
Benburb went into the lead after a terrible defensive blunder in the 26th minute. Heaton who had done little wrong in his appearances for Pollok this season was woefully short with a back pass. Wilson's attempted clearance was blocked and fell nicely into the path of WES PATTISON and he netted from a tight angle. Pacitti twice and Hamilton had headers that went over the bar but Pollok did not look like scoring in the rest of the first half.

Half-time: Pollok 0 Benburb 1

The second half was just a poor for the home side despite two substitutions to try and change the game. Again the main problem was a lack of quality passes and final ball into the box. Benburb on the other hand were playing with a lot of confidence with centre forward Grant looking very composed and dangerous on the ball.

Pollok fell behind to another truly awful defensive blunder. Souter did well to beat his man and cross low and hard into the middle. Ian Wilson could be heard bawling his lungs out that it was his ball. KEVIN O'NEIL somehow did not hear and chested the ball past the keeper and just over the line despite Heaton's desperate attempt to clear.

More huffing and puffing continued from the home side with the Bens being unlucky not to add to the total with a great shot from Mason hitting the inside of the post and Pattison somehow missing a free header at the back post. To Pollok's credit they kept trying and working hard and managed to steal a point.

A McWilliams free kick in the 84th minute caused havoc and CHRIS MULLEN under pressure form Hamilton headed the ball into his own net. Then in the 87th minute DREW MCWILLIAMS cleverly volleyed home Joe Bryers deflected cross. Indeed Pollok nearly snatched a totally undeserved win when Proctor's goal bound shot was deflected wide off Heaton.

Another dreadful performance from Pollok but full credit to the Bens who are a much better side to watch under new manager John Conlin.
